Welcome back! Not that any of you went anywhere, of course, as I was definitely the one taking a bit of a vacation here. But because it's been a month and a LOT of Magic has happened since then, we've got some serious catching up to do. So hang on tight, because here we go!
 |
Let's go back in time! (In unrelated news,
this card is amazing! More on this later.) |
Khans of Tarkir Spoilers: I missed most of spoiler season for this one. We could say that I saw the majesty that was our two new planeswalker and passed out for the rest of it. Yeah, let's say that. I got ridiculously excited about Sarkhan, and the color red in general, and now I really want to play the "Jeskai Wins" deck that is running around out there.
 |
Or should it be called "Sarkhan Wins!"
I really need to get my hands on this card... |
Pre-release: I managed to make it out to the Khans pre-release, and I played Jeskai. I played 5 rounds, and I managed to face a deck from a different clan each round. Round one I thrashed an Abzan drafter, round two I destroyed a Sultai player, and round three I massacred a Temur morph deck. Then it got ugly. Round four I was trampled down by the Mardu Horde. It wasn't even close. His deck was insanely fast, in a field of players who were doing nothing until they played their first morph. Then in Round five, the Jeskai mirror-match. We went to turns, and in the final turn of game three he decked me. I actually ran out of cards in my library in a Sealed game, a first for me. Overall it was fun, the Sealed format is ridiculously slow and grindy, and may have been some of the longest games of two player Magic I've ever played.

This card is the real deal. Flying, with a chance
of vigilance or lifelink is a nasty barrier to victory. |
Pro Tour Khans of Tarkir: The Magic Pro Tour happened again, and the decks were insane. Nearly every color type and clan were present, as long as they included blue, because nearly every single deck had Dig Through Time in it. It turns out that being able to pick two cards from the top seven on your deck is a REALLY GOOD play, and Delve is seriously good in almost any deck. About the only deck that succeeded without this card was Abzan, and apparently it didn't need it because it won the Pro Tour. While not a favorite of mine, I can see the appeal of Siege Rhino, but not quite enough to play black in Standard. Just not going to happen.
 |
Also not looking forward to seeing him on the other guys' side of the battlefield.
Can we all just forget this card exists? Eww. |
Okay, so between Jeskai and Abzan, all five colors are being played in Magic right now. Gone are the mono-colored Theros decks, and I am happy to welcome our new three-color overlords. Which clan is your pick to play through the next few months? Let me know, and I promise the vacation is over. I will be back again before next month. In fact, I've already got the next couple weeks planned. There will be updates on casual, Standard and drafting on their way. Sneak peek: Conspiracy is still awesome! You seriously need to play it.
